Frequently Asked Questions

TLDR Parents Beta Version 0.2
Updated: December 22, 2025

Q: Does TLDR Parents offer a mobile app?

A: Not yet - however the web application is responsive to different device sizes and may be used in your favorite mobile web browser. Many parents prefer to add the TLDR events page to a home screen 'app view' to quickly scan Events that TLDR Parents is suggesting from their emails.

You may create a mobile app-like bookmark for iOS and Android devices respectively by following the steps below:
  1. iOS
    1. Open the TLDR Parents site and page you wish to bookmark in Safari
    2. Tap the Share button - Bottom center (square with the ↑ arrow).
    3. Scroll down and choose “Add to Home Screen” - If you don’t see it, scroll the list—it’s usually near the bottom.
    4. Rename the icon (optional) - This will be the label under the “app” on your Home Screen.
    5. Tap “Add”
    6. Safari creates a standalone app-like icon on your Home Screen.
  2. Android
    1. Open the TLDR Parents site and page you wish to bookmark in Chrome
    2. Tap the 'meatballs' 3 vertical dots in the upper right corner
    3. Tap 'Add to Home screen'
    4. Rename the icon (optional) - This will be the label under the “app” on your Home Screen
    5. Tap 'Add' to confirm placement

Q: Does TLDR Parents connect to WhatsApp?

A: We're considering options to ingest WhatsApp messages. Currently, you can screenshot WhatsApp messages and send those to email@tldrparents.com. Our service uses onscreen character recognition (OCR) to capture relevant activity information. Note: there are third party WhatsApp forwarding services that may route WhatsApp messages to TLDR Parents for processing. Please contact support@tldrparents.com if you wish to evaluate one of these.

Q: Why do I need to create a 'Family' on TLDR Parents?

A: TLDR Families come in all shapes and sizes. In the simplest terms, your TLDR Family is the esteemed group of individuals responsible for managing your children's activities, logistics and communications who wish to share related family email and calendar access to that end. While Google Calendar permissions are respected by TLDR Parents, the same view of the TLDR Inbox is shared by all Family Members, so please keep that in mind when inviting new Family Members to your TLDR Family.

Q: What's the difference between a Family Member and a Family Guest?

A: Family Members will have access to the TLDR Inbox and all emails shared with the TLDR service, in addition to being available as an invitee for suggested events. A Family Guest may be invited to suggested Events but does not need a TLDR user account and will not have access to your family's TLDR Inbox.

Q: Can a TLDR user belong to 2 or more families?

A: TLDR user accounts may only belong to 1 TLDR Family as a Family Member, and may be added as a Family Guest in multiple TLDR Families. Please contact support@tldrparents.com if you wish to be added as a Family Member in multiple Families - we'd like to hear more about your use case.

Q: Can I add multiple email accounts to my TLDR Family?

A: Absolutely! We encourage that - some parents have 2 or 3 email accounts (for themselves!) that they wish to connect to their TLDR Family, because they have relevant email volume coming in through each of them. We've seen as many as 6-8 family calendars employed to support family calendar orchestration. Connect all of the services that you might need.

Q: Can I send an email straight through to my calendar, or do I need to review it on the TLDR Parents application first?

A: You can auto-forward your email to TLDR parents, but currently we'll  propose events back that require your confirmation in the application. We'd love to hear from you if you'd like to automate the addition of events all the way through to your calendar by sharing a message.

Q: Will TLDR Parents see my entire inbox if I "Connect My Gmail"?

A: No - we only read emails with the "tldrparents" label. Your filter controls exactly what gets processed.

Q: Can TLDR Parents delete or modify my emails?

A: No - at this time we have readonly access if you connect your Gmail. We cannot mark emails as read, delete, archive, or modify them in any way. All email modifications (like "mark as read") are done by YOUR Gmail filters, not by TLDR Parents. We expect to have modify access in the future, and will then require your authorization to make any changes to your email, such as marking emails "read" or applying the tldrparents label for you.

Q: How often does TLDR Parents sync if I "Connect My Gmail"?

A: We sync automatically every 2 minutes. You can also click "Sync Now" in the app for immediate processing.

Q: Can I still manually label emails in addition to using filters?

A: Yes! You can manually apply the "tldrparents" label to individual emails or bulk-select emails anytime. Filters just automate this for you.

Q: What happens if I remove the "tldrparents" label from an email?

A: Nothing. Emails already sync'd will remain in TLDR Parents.

Q: Can I use filters AND manual forwarding at the same time?

A: Yes! You can use multiple ingestion methods simultaneously. TLDR Parents will intelligently handle duplicates.

Q: I'm currently using Gmail auto-forwarding. Should I switch?

A: We recommend it! The filter + label method is easier to manage, more flexible, and doesn't require approval. You can even keep your existing filter that applies the "tldrparents" label.
